Welcome to the website of the workshop “Touch Affordances”, which was held at INTERACT 2009.

Please check the news page for a summary and pictures of the workshop.

Increasingly, interfaces make use of the sense of touch as an input mechanism (e.g. NFC phones, multi-touch tables, touch screens, tangible interactions,…). Although in essence touch-based interfaces require very simple user actions, many users are not familiar with such actions. As a result, touch-based interfaces often do not trigger correct interactions. This leads to the question of how to design simple, intuitive touch-based  interfaces. In most cases the interaction is made clear by adding (graphic) signage. However, in this workshop, the concept of touch  affordances will be approached from a broader, creative perspective.
